Pitch

The next post i uploaded is a video on the audience we received from our pitch
  • We had them choose which of the designs they thought was better and they picked the second one which i then adjusted in photoshop
  • With the font they chose the middle one but again that was changed in the photoshop production to a simple font
  • they were wary of the colour effect but in the end thought it would be okay after me explaining the concept.
  • We had then debated whether we should go with studio or location shoots and in the end they helped us to come to the conclusion that it should be studio

Task 8 - CD Digipak (Case Studies)

Cd Digipak on PhotoPeach

Labrinth - Electronic Earth
Front Cover - The front cover features the artist Labrinth in a close up where he is looking directly at the camera. However he is his signature pair of sunglasses so as a reader we are unable to see his eyes which decreases the intimacy between the viewer and image. The sunglasses must be used to reflect his eye line view and he is looking at buildings which are displaying videos and words in what looks like Korean. This goes well with the title of his album as we live in a world which is mainly controlled by everything electronic. The lighting creates a very mysterious feel as only part of his face is highlighted leaving the rest in the dark. The font is in white and at the top of the cover so not to cover his actual face. It shows that the album has explicit content which provides a warning for young listeners that some songs may not be appropriate for their listening.

Back Cover- The back cover has the view of a city at night which is dimly lit by lights from buildings or street lights. The album as whole is quite atmospheric and using low key lighting in the images. Keep with the colour scheme the text on the back is in white matching the titles of album and the text it aligned neatly on the left hand side so that we are able to see the image with less obstruction from the font.

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

Front Cover - The front cover features the artist Janelle Monae in a close up, she is looking directly into the camera which means there is a more intimate connection with the viewer and image. This is a high key image as she is well lit from all angles, meaning that it is nice to look at. The album name relates with how she is dressed as she is made to look like an android. With both of these albums the cover has related to the title which shows that is an important aspect as it confirms it. The font is simple and is in gold to match the armour she is wearing therefore making sure the colours are not juxtaposing one another. The background is plain and simple in order for her to stand out and be the focal point of the album.

Back Cover - The back cover shows us Janelle Monae but in a long shot where we are able to see her whole body. She is positioned on the left standing partly sideways but looking at the camera in order to show her power and role in the story like album. Next to her is the track list which is in white to create a contrast with the background which we now can see is a city in the future. The alignment of the text and image works well as there isn't any overlapping of text on the main viewing point. Her website is also placed below so that she is able to share with everyone everything else that is going and to strengthen her fan base.

Kimbra - Vows

Front Cover - The front cover is plain white which a huge contrast to the previous albums as they are quite dark tonally. The artist Kimbra is placed on the right/centre in a mid shot where she is looking away from the camera, it looks as though her eyes are closed and her arms are folded which shows closed body language, meaning that she is hurt or weary. She is dressed in a white garment which is painted with black flowers which creates a contrast with the background. The text is simple and in black, this album as a whole screams simplicity but yet at the time it is fascinating to look at.

Back Cover - The back cover sticks with the whole basic white and black theme. On the right the artists hands are in placement of her body and she is making a hand gesture, she has painted on patterns which relate to the names of some her songs.  On the left hand side is the track list in a basic font which is aligned in a way that allows the hand placement work well. The barcode is in the top right hand corner rather than at the bottom of the artwork.

Final viewing (feedback)

This was the feedback from our final viewing of the music video, with our peers we had them feedback on what they thought of the video now that we had fixed the previous faults they had seen. We ulltimately got praised, as it seems that we incorporated all the necessary changes within our music video. They especially liked that we had incorporated quick cuts which sped up the action of the video as well as adding to the climatic nature of the song.

Auditions

Due to the withdrawal of both of our characters from the shooting of the video, we decided to find new people who would fit the criteria. Thus, my partner and I decided took it upon ourselves to hold auditions for the role of the girl, mainly because the storyline is told from the girl’s perspective; hence we have to make sure that the actor playing the girl is fit for the role.

I was not able to be there for the actual audition due to circumstances but believed my partner would do fine with actress. Before the audition, she made sure to explain the storyline of the video, as well as the emotions of the main character. Because the storyline touches on an extremely touching subject – the breakup of a couple – She had to make sure that Aleksandra could easily slip into the role of a heartbroken girl. To do so, we talked about relationships, and presented her to the 5 stages of loss (Denial/Isolation, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance).

After discussing about the storyline, the  lyrics of the song were presented to her that we are going to use for the music video. To get her used to it, Alex decided to sing with her in order to make her feel more relaxed about the situation.

The final part of the audition was to get  Aleksandra to act out the opening of the video, which consists of the protagonist packing her bag and going out of the room. Although that was the most we had time to fit in to the audition, we found that she suited the role, mainly because of her facial expressions.

After this my partner had shown me the video of the audition in which she recorded Aleksandra and i believed she was perfect for the role.
